The flat roofs of houses and residential apartment buildings all have very similar characteristics. Typically, these are fairly confined spaces and often have a large number of obstacles such as antennas, chimneys, and skylights, which can significantly reduce the space available for installation.
These surfaces also have another important factor in common, and that is the material with which the surface is covered. These are often green roofs, gravel-covered surfaces or, in rarer cases, ceramic paving.

The Sun Ballast Vela system: maximum power in a small space
For the installation of photovoltaic systems in areas with small dimensions, such as those of apartment buildings and houses, the goal is to optimize use of the available space to achieve the power required by the customer.
In cases like these, the Sun Ballast Vela system is the ideal solution.
Available in two different inclinations of 5° and 11°, is the perfect solution for this type of roofing, because eliminates the space usually left vacant between the different rows of panels. This allows you to maximize the space without causing shading problems.
In the case of the 5° inclination, up to 6 consecutive rows of panels can be installed, while for the 11° version, up to 3 rows of ballasts can be placed.
The installation of multiple rows linked together should not be considered a limitation to the versatility of the installation: in fact, the rows can safely be installed independently or even interrupted in case of obstacles or other features of the roof.
The East-West system: constant energy production
The Vela system is not the only Sun Ballast system designed to adapt to situations where space optimization is a priority. The East-West system, thanks to the innovative configuration in which the ballasts are placed shoulder to shoulder, is also able to derive maximum energy from tight spaces.
This structure is also ideal for apartment blocks or very tall buildings where wind impact is a significant issue. The shoulder-to-shoulder placement of the ballasts, in fact, prevents the channelling of air currents while providing greater stability to the entire photovoltaic system and without the need to drill holes in the roof.
In addition, all Sun Ballast systems including the Vela system and the East-West system do not need to be fixed to the roof by drilling – this, as you can easily guess, not only allows the installation surfaces to be left unchanged, but also makes the installer’s work easier and faster.
