Sun Ballast technical report: Faster projects, easier installation, safer pv system

Technical reports provided by Sun Ballast are used by thousands of industry professionals. They simplify both the design and installation phases by ensuring the correct use of PV ballasts and the highest level of safety for flat roof PV systems.

Not only concrete mounting systems: Sun Ballast’s technical department provides more than 23,000 technical reports every year. A fundamental tool, which has been a true trademark of the company since 2012, and which after more than 10 years continues to provide indispensable support to planners and installers of photovoltaic systems worldwide. Thanks to comprehensive technical support, Sun Ballast is today not only the leading supplier of photovoltaic structures for flat roofs, but a true partner to be relied upon in the search for the safest, most cost-effective and customer-specific technical solutions.

But what data is needed to fill out a technical report? And what calculations are provided to the customer?

DATA REQUIRED FROM CUSTOMERS

Sun Ballast’s technical department is made up of more than 20 professionals, and in addition to providing expert advice on the best solutions for photovoltaic structures, it guarantees a comprehensive technical report, useful both to simplify the design phases and to maximise safety and productivity of the installation.

Each technical report is defined on the basis of the data provided by customers; the most important of these are as follows

Location of the PV system: this can be reported by sending geographical coordinates, or simply by indicating the address of the building. The more precise is the given location, the more precise will be the calculations provided.

Building (and parapet) height: crucial in the analysis of winds and shading, these parameters allow the technical office to assess the most suitable PV system for the specific characteristics of the building and its roof.

Type of panels: the model and size of the modules are essential for defining the type of photovoltaic structure. The choice of the most suitable mounting solution also takes into account the fixing parameters indicated in the module data sheet.

Planimetry and/or layout: based on the characteristics of the roof or on the layout of the panels, the Technical Department provides a complete planimetry of the structures and accessories, which not only simplifies the design, but also optimises space management.

THE DATA PROVIDED IN THE REPORT

The technical report provided by Sun Ballast’s technical department contains all the necessary data for a safe, productive and reliable flat-roof photovoltaic system. In order to guarantee the highest level of safety, the calculations made by the technicians are also defined on the basis of the main reference standards – such as the NTC (Technical Standards for Construction), CEI 82-74 and UNI ENV 1991-2-4 – and to certain specific circulars issued by the regulatory bodies (such as Ministerial Decree 17/01/2018, Circular 21 January 2019, no.7 C.S.LL.PP., or CNR-DT 207/2008).

The technical report is therefore defined on the basis of the data provided by the client and the reference regulatory framework: it includes certain calculations that are fundamental for the correct implementation of the system.

These include:

Complete planimetry: the project shared in the report is provided taking into account all the specific characteristics of the roof, the geographical position of the building, the type of solar panels and the selected structure. This makes the design phases much simpler and faster.

Incidence of loads: the calculation of the weight per square metre is a key parameter, and Sun Ballast’s Technical Department provides a detailed incidence analysis ensuring the perfect balance between system weight and weather resistance.

Wind calculation: a primary aspect of PV systems safety: wind analysis is carried out accurately by determining the kinetic pressure based on all available parameters, such as pressure coefficient.

Rollover verification: carried out for each specific pressure zone, rollover verification aims to define the most suitable PV structure to achieve the correct balance between ‘pushing’ and ‘stabilising’ forces, and allows the end customer to be guaranteed the best level of reliability.

COMPREHENSIVE TECHNICAL SUPPORT FROM DESIGN TO INSTALLATION

Sun Ballast’s technical service provides all customers constant and professional assistance. In addition to sharing the technical report, the staff also provides free support in the early stages of the inspection, on how to use of the configurator and during all assembly operations. A guarantee of safety, efficiency and longevity of the system, which accompanies customers not only in the choice of the best photovoltaic structures, but also during the phases of installation, transport and maintenance.
