Ballasts for solar panels: from 0° to 30°, the right tilt for every pv system

The most suitable tilt for a photovoltaic system on a flat roof depends on numerous factors, and thanks to its wide range of models, Sun Ballast’s PV ballasts offer a solution for every need.

A complete range of photovoltaic structures for flat roofs

The tilt of the panels is undoubtedly one of the most important parameters to evaluate during the design phase. It is closely related to the type of building, roof characteristics, the model of the panel being used, and—more generally—the configuration of the PV system.

To provide a solution suitable for any photovoltaic system on a flat roof, Sun Ballast has developed over the years a range of photovoltaic structures available in various tilts, from 0° to 30°. Some systems offer multiple tilt angles, while others—with specific structural features—are supplied with a more limited range of inclinations.

Seven tilt angles and constant technical support

To select the version that best meets the specific needs of a system, the Sun Ballast Technical Office assists customers throughout all design phases, offering not only support in choosing the best technical and economic solution but also detailed technical reports including wind calculations, stability checks, and load impact analyses.

Here’s a brief overview of the available tilt angles and their associated systems:

Ballasts for solar panels with a 0° tilt
Highly effective in overcoming landscape constraints and limiting system visibility from outside, 0° concrete ballasts offer a flexible and practical solution suitable for panels of all sizes.

Photovoltaic structures with a 0° tilt: Zero

Ballasts for solar panels with a 3° tilt
A 3° tilt is very useful for minimizing system visibility, roof load, and shading between rows. It can be used in two different configurations.

Photovoltaic structures with a 3° tilt: Single-Row, East-West

Ballasts for solar panels with a 5° tilt
Commonly used to ensure good performance without overloading the roof, a 5° tilt is adopted in numerous systems—both single-row and grid configurations—compatible with standard panels as well as larger sizes.

Photovoltaic structures with a 5° tilt: Single-Row, Sail, Connect, East-West, Mono-XL, Industrial-XL

Ballasts for solar panels with a 10° tilt
A 10° tilt is one of the most popular options, available in numerous configurations, offering an excellent balance between load, performance, and space management. These ballasts are suitable for both standard panels and the latest generation of large modules.

Ballasts for solar panels with 15°, 20°, and 30° tilts
In many cases, higher tilts can offer significant advantages, particularly in terms of energy performance. Accessories can be highly beneficial for wind management in these situations.
